Carol’s trademark name “Taylor Maid Art” is a nostalgic tribute to her maiden name and to her heritage on a farm in Nokomis Saskatchewan. As a young adult she ventured to Calgary Alberta where she married and had two children. The family kept moving west and eventually she ended up in Penticton. BC where she worked as Principal’s Assistant at Okanagan University College for over thirty years. Carol is now retired and resides in Penticton.
Drawing has been a joy since childhood but she didn’t use paint until later in life when she travelled with an artist friend to northern Italy where its historical buildings, warm light, and culture brought out the desire to capture fleeting moments with a pencil and watercolor paint. Her love of skies has been influenced by growing up under the ever-changing big sky in Saskatchewan and then later experiencing the warm glow of the skies in northern Italy. Carol also enjoys creating paintings of buildings, florals, and figures, where light plays a major role to draw interest and excitement for a unique story
Carol received some formal training in Art History at Okanagan College and she has continued to develop her skills by regularly participating in educational artist run workshops. She was awarded Active status with the Federation of Canadian Artists in 2016. Carol was also an owner/manager for seven years in an artist run gallery on Front Street in Penticton.
She has completed works with several mediums including pencil, ink, watercolors, acrylics, oils and more. Although many of her works are completed in her studio, she is finding new enjoyment in painting in the outdoors and joining plein air groups on their adventures is quickly becoming a happy a new priority.
Her paintings are in private collections worldwide
